Trends | IISERs

The evolution of the Internet has opened up scores of data and information on a host of things under the sun. Given our training in 'science' and our current venture into 'science communication', we are marking our foray into 'data journalism'. For a start, we begin with attempting to know which institutions are popular based on Google Trends. The Research Matters team pulled out data Google Trends to explore who is popular under Science category.

We present you the results in three categories. One, the key institutions responsible for scientific funding and administration in the country: Department of Science and Technology (DST), Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). Two, we compare leading academic insitutions like IISc with five other IITs. Three, we compare the recently (in the past ten years) created Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER).

We will be incrementally presenting more such data and visualisations. Do keep a watch on this space. Please send in your feedback / comments to info@gubbilabs.in.

Numbers represent search interest relative to the highest point on the chart for the given region (India) and time (past one year). A value of 100 is the peak popularity for the term. A value of 50 means that the term is half as popular. Likewise, a score of 0 means the term was less than 1% as popular as the peak. Source: Google Trends.

Note: Only 5 IISERs were considered since they were started about 10 years ago.
