Generative AI Policy

As the use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies becomes more prevalent in content creation, Research Matters aims to foster transparency, integrity, and quality in our publications. This policy outlines the guidelines for our writers and contributors concerning the use of these technologies in developing content for our portal in a responsible and ethical way.

Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in Content Creation

  • Original Content Generation: Writers and contributors are strictly prohibited from using generative AI technologies involving large-language models (LLMs) to generate or develop original content, including articles, features, interviews, or any other form of editorial content. All submissions must reflect the author’s own expertise, research, and writing skills.
  • Improving Readability and Language: Writers and contributors may utilize generative AI and AI-assisted tools to enhance the readability, grammar, and overall language quality of their work. However, this should be done judiciously, with significant human oversight throughout the process. The final output must solely represent the author's voice and perspective.
  • Generating/ modifying digital images: Writers and contributors may utilize generative AI and AI-assisted tools to generate or modify images/ art/ infographics/ videos with appropriate disclosures.
  • Human Oversight and Accountability: Writers and contributors are ultimately responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of their work. They should thoroughly review and revise any AI-assisted edits or suggestions before submission. This ensures that the final content aligns with our editorial standards and reflects responsible journalism.
  • Disclosure and Transparency: If generative AI or AI-assisted tools have been employed to aid in enhancing the readability and grammatical correctness of the content or to generate/ modify any digital images, authors must include a brief statement in the submission process acknowledging this use. This promotes transparency and trust between our contributors, readers, and editorial team.
  • Prohibition of AI as Author or Contributor: Writers should not attribute authorship or contribution status to generative AI or AI-assisted technologies. Authorship is a human responsibility that necessitates accountability for the content produced.

Special Note for Writers/Contributors:

  • Prior to submitting any content, contributors must ensure that the use of any generative AI tools aligns with this policy. Thoroughly check that your work maintains integrity and originality, consistent with our commitment to high-quality scientific journalism.
  • Contributors are encouraged to familiarize themselves with our editorial standards and ethics policies, ensuring all content adheres to our values of authenticity and transparency.

At Research Matters, we are using tools like Grammarly and Canva along with popular generative AI platforms like OpenAI and Gemini for enhancing the quality of our outputs.

As we navigate the evolving landscape of content creation with new technologies, Research Matters is committed to maintaining the highest standards in our reporting and storytelling.
