A new review reveals that rising global temperatures, increased pollution, and extreme weather events are driving a global surge in eye diseases, disproportionately affecting vulnerable communities and challenging healthcare systems.
On 18 November 2023, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) along with the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, in Bengaluru organised the, “Dialogue 2023: Expanding Science and Technology Horizons”.
In an event today, Prof. K VijayRaghavan, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, launched a national program to foster cross-disciplinary leadership in India. Named the EChO Network, it focuses on increasing research, knowledge, and awareness of Indian ecology and the environment. It is hoped that this program would develop a national network to catalyse a new generation of Indians who can solve real-world problems in medicine, agriculture, ecology, and technology.
In a press interaction held at Vignan Bhavan, New Delhi, on the 6th of March, 2019, the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, Prof K. VijayRaghavan, shared details of the nine new science and technology missions with a focus on ‘Science for People and People for Science’. These missions, guided by the Prime Minister’s Science, Technology & Innovation Advisory Council (PM-STIAC), aims to promote research for the benefit of the society.
On the 26th of March, 2018, Prof. K VijayRaghavan, ex-Secretary, Department of Biotechnology (DBT), and ex-Director of the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), was appointed the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India. He succeeds Dr. R. Chidambaram and is expected to assume the office shortly.
