IIT Bombay’s new web application, IMPART, allows researchers to track changing water surface temperatures and can help to track climate change

On April 26 2019, scientists at the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) and the Virgo Interferometer detected gravitational waves from a possible black hole-neutron star collision thought to have taken place 1.2 billion light years away. The event was observed by both LIGO observatories, based in Louisiana and Washington state in the USA, and the Virgo facility based in the European Gravitational Observatory (EGO) in Italy.

An international team, including scientists from California Institute of Technology, USA, University of Oxford, UK, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Pune and several other universities from around the globe, are probing radio waves emanating from the source that the produced gravitational wave event GW170817. Their study could reveal more information about the events that cause gravitational waves and its aftermath.
