Two new studies from the Indian Institute of Bombay (IIT Bombay), Mumbai, show the importance of defects in the arrangement of atoms in a crystal, called dislocations, in shaping the physical properties of metallic alloys.

अनेक अणू एकत्र येऊन रेणू तयार होताना अणूंची त्या रेणूमधली मांडणी वेगवेगळ्या पद्धतीने होऊन त्याच्या वेगळ्या रचना तयार होऊ शकतात. अश्या रचनांना समसूत्री(आयसोमर/isomer) म्हणतात. काही समसूत्रींतील अणूंच्या रचना एकमेकांचे आरशातले प्रतिबिंब असतात. जसे दोन हात एकमेकांवर ठेवल्यास तंतोतंत जुळत नाहीत, तश्याच ह्या रचना एकमेकांवर ठेवल्यास जुळत नाहीत.
