Researchers at the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata; University of Otago, New Zealand; Fred Hutchinson Cancer  Research Centre, USA and National Institute of Biomedical Genomics, West Bengal, explain how altered levels of biological molecules, like lncRNA and miRNA, can lead to the development of oral cancer.

Researchers study the trends in smoking in China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and India.

An international collaboration of researchers have studied the trends in tobacco use in China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and India. The study, which included a million participants, is a meta-analysis of 20 cohort studies in these countries that collected data on tobacco habits from representative individuals above 35 years of age. The results reveal region–specific tobacco smoking patterns and the resulting mortality.

Increasingly, today’s youth of the country are blowing up their childhood in smoke, quite literally! A new study has revealed some shocking reasons behind the addiction to tobacco based products among the youth. The study calls out that parents, especially mothers, play a great role in increasing the probability of their kids getting addicted to tobacco, as much as three times! In spite of the anti-tobacco laws introduced by the government, families play a great role in dissuading the children from using tobacco, claim the researchers.
